Payal Rajpal boasts 18 years of international experience in management and leadership, specializing in integrating businesses, strategic management, IT, ITES, FDI, innovation, skill development, digital startups, and social ventures. In 2018, she launched Robotex India as the Director and South Asia Head, an initiative that has educated 1.2 million government school students from low-income communities through CSR initiatives. These initiatives integrate industry and academia through future skills workshops and competitions, fostering a new generation of technologists and innovators. With a strong commitment to equality and inclusion, Payal’s work continues to create a transformative impact on India’s educational landscape. She has been a pioneer in introducing robotics, artificial intelligence, and STEM education to government schools in urban and rural areas, effectively bringing future skills to tribal, rural, and government school students. Her bold decision to relocate from the UK to India in 2010 was fueled by a singular mission: to bridge the gap between industry and academia and revolutionize employability prospects.

This showcase not only highlighted the organization’s commitment to bridging the Digital Divide but also demonstrated the powerful impact of imparting 21st-century skills to government school students, earning accolades from significant entities such as the national and global leaders and ministers 

Connecting with the Global Robotics Community Robotex Championships are not merely competitions; they are conduits connecting young innovators with the global robotics community. Participants gain insight into market trends and advanced technologies, paving the way for seamless academia integration into the industry. These platforms serve dual purposes: recognizing burgeoning talent and unlocking doors to internships and career opportunities worldwide.

Regional and National Championships: A Testament to Inclusive Growth 2023 Robotex India regionals welcomed government school students to compete alongside peers from private institutions. Impressively, 75% of these students advanced to the National Championships. The national event in Pune saw over 1,000 contenders across ten categories, with government school students excelling notably—securing top 15 ranks and propelling nearly 50 students to the international stage.

International Achievements: Showcasing Global Talent In a groundbreaking first, nine students from economically disadvantaged government schools represented India at the Robotex International Championship 2023 in Tallinn, Estonia. Sponsored by BMC Software these students excelled, with one team finishing in the top 10 of the Entrepreneurship Challenge. Their projects, like the Smart River Cleaning initiative and the Four-Layer Authentication System, stood out, securing 5th and 7th places respectively, highlighting their exceptional problem-solving prowess.

Robotex Asia Championship 2024: Continuing the Legacy In early 2024, with the steadfast support of CSR partner BNY Mellon, students from low-income government schools from rural Chennai ventured to Shanghai, China, for the Robotex Asia Championship. Competing against over 6,000 participants, they achieved top-ten finishes in the Entrepreneurship Challenge. This stellar performance underscored their creativity and entrepreneurial skills on a global scale, continuing Robotex India’s legacy of fostering future tech leaders.

Unleashing Tomorrow’s Tech Titans: The Robotex India National Championship 2024 

The Robotex India National Championship 2024 showcased cutting-edge technology including waste segregation robots, earthquake detection devices, and fire-fighting robots, alongside ingenious puzzle-solving robots. Held at MIT-ADT University’s World Peace Dome in Pune, the event attracted about 2,000 participants from both rural Maharashtra and other states, featuring categories like Line Follower, Maze Solver, Robo Sumo, and Girls Fire Fighting.

The competition was attended by notable figures including Sunita Venkat, Chancellor of MIT ADT University; Anjali Byce, Group Chief HR Officer at Sterlite Technologies; and Ali Khan, Director of IT Governance at ZS India. Payal Rajpal, Director of Robotex India, highlighted that 60% of participants were from government schools, providing a platform for students to display their STEM skills. Winners will advance to the Robotex International Championship in Estonia in December.

Anjali Byce emphasized the event’s role in bridging the digital divide by providing STEM opportunities and supporting over 6,000 students in Maharashtra. Pinky Rajpal expressed pride in the participation of over 2,000 students, who represent the future of Indian science and technology. Ali Khan noted their commitment to gender-inclusive tech education through CSR, while Saroj Kumar Aapto of the Electronics Sector Skills Council stressed the importance of such competitions in enhancing students’ scientific skills. Prakash Kumar Das from WNS highlighted their ongoing efforts to provide STEM opportunities, reaching six lakh students through their initiatives.
