Shaukat Ali Khan : driving the modernisation of healthcare systems

Shaukat Ali Khan has joined as the Executive Chief Digital and Information Officer, Executive Director, and Board Member of the NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) and Integrated Care System (ICS). In this role, he is driving the modernisation of healthcare systems, optimising operations, and empowering clinicians to create a future ready ecosystem. He leads the Digital, Data, and Technology (DDaT) Directorate and governs leadership forums, spearheading initiatives that support 2.4 million people across multiple regions, while ensuring seamless IT support is provided to over 100,000 users across a vast network of healthcare providers.

Before joining NHS, Shaukat served as the Global Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Aga Khan University (AKU), where he managed ICT systems and services for over 32,000 users across AKU’s diverse portfolio of Hospitals, Medical Centers, and University locations spanning Asia, Africa, and the United Kingdom.

He also held the role of CIO at the University of Central Asia (UCA), leading digital transformation initiatives across 15 locations in four countries. Shaukat has also worked at Novo Nordisk in Denmark as Head of IT Production Infrastructure and Global Senior IT Infrastructure Architect, supporting over 60,000 employees across 80 countries. Additionally, he worked at the UNICEF HQ IT Center in Copenhagen, where he focused on integrating global data networks and supporting IT operations.

With over two decades of international experience in sectors such as healthcare, education, pharmaceuticals, humanitarian aid, defense, and hospitality, Shaukat has become a recognized leader in IT. He holds a master’s degree in computer science from the Blekinge Institute of Technology, Sweden, and is a certified Dynamic Manager and Leader from Harvard Business School.

Throughout his career, Shaukat has received over 50 national and international awards, including the DXInspire Award and the World CIO 200 Legend Award. He was also honoured with the “Thought Leader’s Excellence Award” by the President of Pakistan in January 2023 and nominated as Pakistan’s candidate for Chief Information Technology Officer – Assistant Secretary General at the United Nations. A sought after speaker and commentator on technology trends, Shaukat has organised international conferences and authored articles for top global publications.
