You were by Andreea’s side during one of the most difficult moments in her life—her coma. What gave you strength during that time, and what do you remember most vividly from those days?

“My strength came from love and a firm belief in her resilience. I had moments of doubt when I questioned if she would pull through. But I never lost faith that she would return stronger than ever. I stayed by her side daily, playing our wedding song and letting our daughters’ voices fill the room. I spoke to her as if she could hear me because I believed she could feel my presence. The nurses later shared that I even brought candies on July 4th—our wedding anniversary. The hardest part was not knowing if I would hear her thoughts again, but my unwavering hope kept me going.”

“I consider myself dedicated to my profession while Andreea complements my efforts by balancing our personal lives seamlessly. Even when life took us to different continents—me to the U.S., her to Europe—our bond didn’t just survive. It flourished. We’ve supported each other through pregnancies, heartbreaks, artistic journeys, and now, a new professional chapter together. Our friendship is not just history. It’s a living, growing force.”

“We met as children at the Dinu Lipatti Music High School—the very same school where I now serve as Assistant Director. It was a time when being introverted or passionate about music made you stand out. We were both different. Both serious. Both ‘too quiet’ for the noisy world around us. And that’s exactly what drew us closer, even before we truly became friends.

Over the years, our mutual respect deepened. We became adults, musicians, professionals. But more than anything, we became each other’s support system. The day her father passed away… I was there, without her needing to ask. Because when someone feels like family, you don’t wait for an invitation. That’s what Andreea is to me.”

I come from a family of musicians, where discipline, humility, and respect for art weren’t just taught—they were lived. “We’ve known each other for many years—we were schoolmates, but we weren’t close during those school days. Andreea and I reconnected later, more recently, as professionals. Our paths crossed again when her daughters began studying at ‘George Enescu,’ where I teach. That’s when we really began to talk—to see one another, not just as artists, but as people. It didn’t feel at all like I was going to Andreea’s classes to necessarily learn, but to spend time with a dear friend. But simultaneously, learning so much and improving my English. She made the environment in such a way that students would want to come back and not feel like they are in school. This is what I would say separates Andreea from other teachers, the creative ways and warm approaches to learning a language.”

What is your most powerful memory from your time working with her? “This is a really tough question to answer, because I have a lot of nice memories with Andreea. But if I had to choose one, it would be the one where I watched the Oscar ceremony, back in 2019 and the next day I went for a lesson with Andreea and told her about the gala. We talked in English about the winners and top moments of the Oscar night, as well as red carpet looks. At the time I was like this child that nobody wanted to listened to if I spoke about movies. I’ve always been a film fanatic and been dreaming to act and create pieces for theatre and film for a very long time. Andreea was probably one of the fewest people at the time that believed in me, which was really important for my 16 year old self, who needed confidence, just like any other teenager. Now I graduated with a BA Acting degree from a London University. I have an agent and get to do acting jobs, even though I graduated less than a year ago. It’s frustrating for me, the one who’s playing, so I can only imagine how it must feel for a teacher to hear the same wrong notes again and again. But instead of saying, ‘You’re doing it wrong. You can’t do it,’ she says calmly, ‘It’s okay, we’ve all failed at some point.’ I once asked her if it wasn’t frustrating to keep hearing the same mistakes. She smiled and said, ‘It’s very frustrating for my ears, yes… but I know that eventually, you’ll nail it. And when I see you shine with this piece, that’s the greatest reward for me as a teacher.’ That’s what I love most about her. Instead of discouraging or intimidating the student, she lifts them up. She makes you feel like you’re capable, like you can do it—and that makes all the difference.”

What is your most powerful memory from your time working with her? “I remember when I first told her that I wanted to study at the conservatory after finishing school, even though I still wasn’t sure which section I wanted to pursue. She didn’t brush it off or wait for me to figure it out on my own. Instead, she immediately took action—she reached out, asked around, and pulled some strings to make sure I’d make the right decision and have the best possible experience when the time came.
