The future of renewable energy will not be shaped solely by ambitious ideas. It will also depend on leaders willing to challenge long standing assumptions, embrace rigorous engineering, and remain committed to solving problems that others have accepted as inevitable. Peter Olek, Founder and CEO of Axowind Holdings Pty Ltd and Axowind Pty Ltd, exemplifies this mindset.
His journey brings together economics, entrepreneurship, business development, commercial real estate, and renewable energy innovation. Rather than following a conventional path into engineering, Peter developed a broad understanding of how ideas become commercially successful and why many promising technologies struggle to achieve lasting impact.
Born in Warsaw, Poland, Peter received tertiary education at the Warsaw School of Economics, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Organisation of Production. His formative education also included technical studies connected with the automotive industry and practical workplace experience across administration, technology, production, and manufacturing management. This combination of academic learning and practical exposure gave him an early understanding of how organisations operate and how theoretical knowledge must ultimately translate into real world results.
After beginning his professional journey with FSO Fiat Motor Company and later immigrating to Australia with his young family, Peter spent two years in the insurance industry before identifying an opportunity to establish his own commercial real estate business. Through entrepreneurship, he built an extensive network of influential business connections while strengthening the economic, financial, organisational, and commercial skills that would later prove vital to Axowind’s growth.
QUESTIONING WHY OTHERS FAILED
Peter’s interest in Vertical Axis Wind Turbines emerged from a simple but powerful question: why had so many promising designs failed to achieve long term commercial success?
For decades, VAWTs attracted attention because of their potential advantages. Yet structural failures, maintenance challenges, material limitations, and inconsistent performance repeatedly affected confidence in the sector. Instead of accepting these outcomes as unavoidable, Peter believed that the failures of the past could provide valuable lessons for the future.
That philosophy became the foundation of Axowind.
Peter and his team spent years examining historical VAWT projects from around the world, studying documented structural failures, fatigue behaviour, maintenance records, materials, and engineering decisions. A recurring pattern emerged. Many systems had not been designed to withstand the immense cyclic loading experienced by wind turbines operating continuously over extended periods.
This discovery transformed the company’s development philosophy. The objective was not simply to create another turbine. It was to engineer a renewable energy solution capable of delivering structural integrity, reliable performance, and long term economic value throughout an anticipated service life of 25 to 30 years.
BRINGING AEROSPACE DISCIPLINE TO RENEWABLE ENERGY
Peter recognised that achieving this ambition required expertise and engineering discipline beyond conventional approaches. Axowind therefore incorporated aerospace structural analysis principles into its development programme through collaboration with aerospace specialist Leszek Scholz.
With experience connected to globally recognised aviation programmes involving Airbus, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Bombardier, GKN Aerospace, Hawker de Havilland, and the F 35 fighter programme, Scholz brought a culture centred on validation, evidence, precision, and rigorous testing.
For Peter, this represented a crucial distinction between developing an impressive prototype and building a technology platform capable of long term commercial deployment. Every major engineering decision needed to be supported by analysis and controlled processes rather than assumptions.
Working closely with the engineering team, Axowind developed a comprehensive Product Definition Statement consisting of more than 1100 pages organised into 36 Engineering Memoranda. These documents cover the design philosophy, structural calculations, fatigue analysis, materials selection, manufacturing methodology, assembly procedures, testing protocols, quality assurance, safety, maintenance philosophy, and compliance with internationally recognised engineering standards.
This disciplined approach reflects Peter’s belief that renewable energy technologies must be supported by the same commitment to evidence and process control found in industries where safety and reliability are critical.
VALIDATING INNOVATION THROUGH SCIENCE
For Peter, genuine innovation must be proven rather than simply promoted.
To further validate Axowind’s approach, the company partnered with the University of New South Wales in Sydney. Under the guidance of Dr. Sonya Brown and her team, specially manufactured aerospace grade carbon fibre composite materials underwent extensive static and dynamic laboratory testing.
The results confirmed the durability of the materials under demanding operating conditions and, in several areas, exceeded the original manufacturer performance specifications. This milestone reinforced Peter’s conviction that trust is earned through scientific validation, consistency, and evidence.
Another important contributor to the development programme was Ziggy Twardowski, a CATIA design specialist and composite manufacturing engineer. His expertise helped advance the production technology behind the turbine’s carbon fibre structural components.
Working with the engineering team, he developed an innovative composite curing process that eliminated adhesive bonding from the manufacture of all major carbon fibre structural parts. During the final autoclave curing stage, he optimised the interaction between time, temperature, and pressure to create integral composite components with enhanced structural integrity while reducing manufacturing time, labour requirements, and production costs.
BUILDING FOR LIFECYCLE VALUE
Years of research, modelling, engineering refinement, and testing ultimately culminated in the development of the Ventus III 15 kW Vertical Axis Wind Turbine.
Every aspect of its development reflects the principles that have guided Axowind from the beginning: safety first, durability second, and performance third.
While many renewable energy technologies focus heavily on peak efficiency figures, Peter has concentrated on lifecycle performance. He understands that customers are not merely investing in equipment. They are investing in dependable energy production and long term value.
This perspective has shaped Axowind’s broader vision. Peter believes that the future of renewable energy lies in distributed hybrid systems integrating wind generation, Solar PV technology, Battery Energy Storage Systems, and intelligent energy management.
Together, these complementary technologies can improve resilience, maximise energy utilisation, and support greater energy independence for businesses, industries, agricultural operations, and remote communities.
LEADERSHIP BUILT ON PERSISTENCE AND EVIDENCE
The journey to this point has required patience, investment, continuous learning, and persistence. Developing a commercially viable renewable energy platform involved years of testing, redesign, and overcoming technical challenges.
For Peter, the experience has strengthened a defining leadership principle: trust cannot be built through promises alone. It must be earned through evidence, consistency, and solutions capable of standing the test of time.
His background in economics, entrepreneurship, and business development also brings an important commercial perspective to technological innovation. Peter understands that even the strongest engineering concept must eventually be supported by effective manufacturing, strategic partnerships, quality assurance, market development, and a clear path towards commercial deployment.
Today, Axowind stands at an important stage in its journey. Its engineering foundation has been established, its technology has undergone extensive validation, and its long term vision is clearly defined.
The next objective is to work alongside strategic investors, manufacturing partners, renewable energy developers, and EPC organisations that recognise the commercial potential of integrating proven wind, Solar PV, and Battery Energy Storage Systems.
A VISION FOR GLOBAL ENERGY PARTNERSHIPS
Peter believes that the energy transition will not be accelerated by individual technologies working in isolation. Instead, meaningful progress will depend on strong partnerships capable of bringing innovative engineering and integrated energy solutions to global markets.
His vision for Axowind extends far beyond a single turbine. It is centred on building a sustainable business platform that connects advanced engineering with commercial understanding and global market opportunities.
Peter Olek’s journey demonstrates that transformative innovation often begins by questioning accepted limitations. By studying past failures, demanding rigorous validation, embracing aerospace engineering principles, and maintaining a long term commercial perspective, he has helped build Axowind around a commitment to reliability, evidence, and sustainable value.
As the world continues its transition towards cleaner and more resilient energy systems, leaders who can connect innovation with disciplined execution will play an increasingly important role. Through Axowind, Peter is pursuing a vision in which renewable energy technologies are not only ambitious in concept but engineered, validated, and prepared to deliver value for decades.
THE LEGACY OF PURPOSEFUL INNOVATION
Peter’s professional journey, from his early education and automotive industry experience in Poland to entrepreneurship in Australia and leadership in renewable energy, reflects the power of combining diverse experience with a willingness to pursue complex challenges.
His approach to innovation remains grounded in a simple principle: lasting success requires more than a promising idea. It requires the discipline to understand why previous solutions failed, the courage to challenge conventional thinking, and the patience to build evidence before making promises.
With Axowind moving towards commercial deployment and seeking strategic partnerships for global growth, Peter Olek continues to demonstrate how entrepreneurship, economic understanding, engineering excellence, and long term vision can come together to pursue a new generation of distributed hybrid energy solutions.
For him, the future is not about choosing one technology over another. It is about bringing the right technologies together, supported by strong engineering and trusted partnerships, to create more reliable, resilient, and sustainable energy systems for the world.
